EGM Consulting, LLC (EGMC) is a Washington, DC-based social justice-focused organizational consulting group that provides highly skilled, individualized services to nonprofit organizations, community planning bodies, public agencies, and private philanthropy. Established at the end of 2011, EGMC has a dual commitment to:

  • Improving access to HIV and other health-related services and reducing health disparities, through assistance to planning groups and community-based service providers and to state and local health departments and the federal agencies that fund these activities.
  • Advancing equity and social justice through assistance to local and national nonprofits – especially community of color and multicultural organizations and coalitions – on a wide range of issues, from structure and governance to program and resource development, planning, policy analysis and advocacy.

EGMC’s President/Managing Director, Emily Gantz McKay, has extensive experience working with HIV prevention and care grantees and planning bodies, community-based and national nonprofits, coalitions, and the health care safety net. Emily has a long history of work with Latino civil rights organizations.

Some of EGMC’s long-term assignments in nonprofit assistance and in HIV-related work are listed below.

Nonprofit consulting work such as the following:

  • Assessment of the scope and results of COVID-related grantmaking of a large national Latino organization, including an extensive online survey completed by almost 250 grantees nationwide.
  • Ongoing consultation to a national Latino organization on planning, structure, staffing, and governance.
  • Staffing of numerous nonprofit strategic planning efforts. Some involved extensive SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats), interviews, and surveys with staff, Board members, affiliates or member agencies, funders, individual donors, and partners, as well as facilitation of retreats and preparation of strategic plans in various formats.
  • Assistance to community-based clinics with planning and program strategy review, most often federally qualified health centers serving communities of color.
  • For an immigrant-focused community health center, staffing of a task force involved in reviewing, rethinking, and restructuring its medical interpretation and navigation services.
  • Governance assistance for nonprofits ranging from a very large senior-focused nonprofit to a small and emerging Latino organization.

HIV-related assignments, including the following:

  • A national assessment of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) Part A planning councils and planning bodies (PC/PBs) and their ability to meet legislative responsibilities and identification of their technical assistance needs, for the HIV/AIDS Bureau.
  • Continuing work as subcontractor to JSI Training and Research Institute for Project Planning CHATT (Community HIV/AIDS Technical Assistance and Training) Project, responsible for updating the Planning Council Primer, preparing a new and substantially expanded Training Guide for Planning Councils/Planning Bodiespreparing numerous other “how to” materials on topics ranging from needs assessment to remote meetings, and assisting planning councils/planning bodies.
  • Evaluation of the HIV system of care and regional administrative structure of a large state’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Part B Program, and training for staff and subrecipients.
  • In-depth assessment of the system of care in a Transitional Grant Area (TGA) with a combined urban and rural service area.
  • On-site and remote training to consumer committees and caucuses associated with Ryan White Planning Councils.
  • Participation in comprehensive site visits to Ryan White Part A and Part B programs, conducted by the HIV/AIDS Bureau.
